We have been to London on many occasions, and it remains one of our favorite cities in the world. There is simply so much going on in London, from new shops to new exhibitions and great social events. Whenever we feel like traveling to an electric city, we always get our London itinerary out and start planning our trip.
Is a 4-day London itinerary enough?
We think that for a first-time visitor, a 4-day London itinerary is the right length. Of course, we know you will love London and will want to come back every weekend thereafter, but that’s another story. London can be anything you want it to be. It can be romantic, electric, vibrant, fun, social, or posh. It’s the many faces of London that make it such an interesting tourist attraction.
Day 1 London Itinerary
Tower Bridge
Start your day at the iconic Tower Bridge, a bascule and suspension bridge in London. This bridge is featured in several movies and is a must-visit attraction. Try to get there as early as possible to avoid potential traffic and crowds. If you want beautiful pictures with this attraction, you might want to make your way there as early as 5 am.
Tower of London
Less than five minutes away from the Tower Bridge, you will find the Tower of London, a historic castle that holds the Crown’s jewels. To learn more about its history, we recommend getting a tour guide in advance. Spend around 2 hours exploring the Tower of London.
St Paul’s Cathedral
Make your way towards St Paul’s Cathedral, located around a 25-minute walk from the Tower of London. Remember that no photos are allowed inside the cathedral, but you can admire it from the outside or pay the £18 admission fee to enter. St Paul’s Cathedral is a stunning architectural masterpiece.
London Eye
Cross the Millenial Bridge and make your way to the London Eye. We believe there is something truly romantic about being in the London Eye. The ride is slow and offers impressive views over London. You can see many beautiful buildings from atop, and we honestly think the London Eye is worth every penny. There are various ticket options available, including VIP cabins with champagne and fancy lunch experiences.
Big Ben
Cross the Westminster Bridge towards the famed Elizabeth Tower, also known as Big Ben. Hearing the chimes of Big Ben is an exciting moment that signifies you are in London. While many assume the whole tower is Big Ben, it is actually just the bell. The tower used to be called the Clock Tower but was renamed Elizabeth Tower to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II.
Palace of Westminster
To see the most beautiful gothic architecture in the world, head to the Palace of Westminster, located on the opposite side of the Westminster Bridge. This incredible building is steeped in history and is a must-see sight in London.
Westminster Abbey
End your evening by visiting Westminster Abbey, a protestant abbey that hosts daily services and has been the site of every English and British coronation since 1066. Prepare for long lines, but the beauty of the abbey makes it worth every second of waiting.
Day 2 London Itinerary
Buckingham Palace
Start your second day by visiting Buckingham Palace, the London residence of Her Majesty The Queen. You may see the changing of the guard or take a tour to learn more about its history and the beautiful private rooms.
Natural History Museum
If you love David Attenborough and are inspired by his travels, you cannot skip a trip to the Natural History Museum. Spend a few hours exploring its exhibitions and marveling at its beautiful interior. The entry is free of charge.
Hyde Park
Take some time to relax and explore the vast Hyde Park. Whether it’s a sunny or rainy day, Hyde Park is a beautiful place to have a picnic or take a relaxing walk.
Speakers’ Corner
Fancy a debate? Check out Speakers’ Corner located in Hyde Park. This is an area where open-air public speaking, debate, and discussion are allowed.
Piccadilly Circus
Head to Piccadilly Circus, a vibrant junction in London’s West End. This is an attraction in itself, with its neon signs and jumbo ads. It can get crowded and busy, but that’s part of the fun.
